THE CAT AND ITS LOVEABLE FRIEND

Did you know that cats can see very well at night?

Cats need only a very little light in order to be able to see. Because cats’ eyes are created differently to ours. In the dark, their pupils grow as large and round as possible in order to let as much light in as possible. That enables them to see very clearly in the dark.

In addition, there is a layer in cats’ eyes that does not exist in ours. This lies immediately behind the retina. Light falling on it through the retina is reflected back onto the retina. This means the light passes through the retina twice. This means that cats can see very well in the dark, even when it is too dark for human beings to see at all.

It is Allah Who gives the cat these superior features. Allah describes how animals are created in another verse:

(It is He Who provides) animals for riding and for haulage and animals for slaughtering and for wool. Eat what Allah has provided for you and do not follow in the footsteps of Shaytan. He is an outright enemy to you. (Sura al-An’am, 142)
